Restoring Your Face and Neck
Your face is the road map of where you have been, physically and emotionally. Every laugh, smile, worry and frown leaves its mark. Add to that sun, stress, gravity and of course the unavoidable, relentless passage of time and permanent lines, sagging, wrinkles and creases result.
But it doesn’t have to be that way. Facelift surgery, or a rhytidectomy, is designed to take years off of the face by removing excess skin and repositioning tissues to restore a more youthful contour. Not only does a facelift improve facial appearance but also when combined with a neck lift can have a dramatic effect on the neck, bringing back its firm, defined appearance. Dr. Weiglein uses contemporary techniques that can make a patient look like he or she did 5 to 10 years earlier.
You may benefit from a facelift if you:
Appear tired and worn out due to laxity in the face and neck
Have deep lines extending from the nose to the corners of the mouth
Have lost an oval facial shape and your face is now rectangular in shape
For comprehensive results, Dr. Weiglein incorporates laser treatments to improve the texture and tone of wrinkled skin.
What to Expect
Dr. Weiglein performs the Minimal Access Cranial Suspension (MACS) lift because it is, in his hands, the most effective in achieving results with the least amount of surgery or downtime. Dr. Weiglein specializes in the MACS lift which is distinctly different than a traditional facelift.
“Minimal access” means that the incision is short and the amount of tissue undermining is minimal. The incision extends from in front of the temporal hairline, under the sideburn, in front of the ear to the earlobe. The lack of incisions around the back means that patients can wear their hair up without the telltale signs of surgery.
“Cranial suspension” means that permanent, invisible sutures secure the lifted tissues to the immobile tissue just above the lateral cheek bone for long-term results.
The advantages of the MACS facelift are:
A natural-looking, comprehensive restoration of a younger face and jawline
Shorter operating time with less bruising, swelling and recovery time
Permanent suture support holding the “lift” in place for long-term support
Dr. Weiglein often incorporates neck lifting techniques into his facelifts to correct a sagging, banded neck and softened jaw line. This may involve an additional incision under the chin and behind the ear, through which he tightens the neck muscles and removes excess skin and fat.
It is important to remember that a facelift only corrects the region from the cheekbones to the jawline. It does not correct the forehead, eyelid region or the neck – there are separate procedures for each of these areas. These separate procedures are often combined with a facelift. A neck lift is often combined with a facelift and requires an additional incision under the chin and behind the ears. This allows the removal of neck fat and tightening of the loose neck muscles and skin. It can be done as an individual procedure.
A facelift can safely be performed in conjunction with an eyelid lift, brow lift, chin augmentation, and/or neck liposuction, to create an overall rejuvenation of the face.
It is necessary to have someone drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 hours. Initially, you will have a large dressing wrapped around your head. The outer, visible sutures are removed in the first week, while invisible sutures stay in place. Swelling and discoloration decrease within 1 week and scarring fades quickly. You may feel tightness in your face for several weeks and sun exposure should be limited until the face is fully healed.
