Eyelid Surgery

Do you look at twenty-somethings and find yourself feeling “eyelid envy?” If you have drooping, puffy eyelids, you’re probably looking aged and tired long before your time. And emptying your wallet on the most expensive creams and serums won’t fix the problem. You may worry that you’re vain or shallow for considering surgery, but what’s wrong with a little “maintenance work” if it makes you look and feel invigorated?

Women and men who visit Dr. Otto Weiglein for blepharoplasty, often called eyelid surgery, from Burlington, Oakville, Hamilton, Brantford, Niagara Falls and other southern Ontario cities find that small changes make a big difference when it comes to this area of the face. Dr. Weiglein’s precise, conservative approach creates natural-looking results that look like you at your happiest, healthiest, and most rested.

Dr. Weiglein believes that you should see the world through youthful eyes. Request a consultation or call Dr. Weiglein at  (905) 634-5573 to discover the possibilities.

Restoring Your Eyelids

Eyelid surgery is a very popular procedure for people who are healthy and active, and who want their eyes to reflect that. Both women and men choose this procedure to:

  • Lift sagging upper eyelids

  • Get rid of puffy under-eye bags

  • Create a firm, youthful contour

  • Restore a more rested appearance

Patient Comfort

What to Expect

Your initial contact with the office will be with our Patient Coordinator whose sole function is to make your esthetic goals come true. Following this discussion, you will have at least 1 consultation with Dr. Weiglein to determine your unique needs and formulate a treatment plan. You will also have a pre-operative visit with 1 of his nurses to make sure you and your caregiver have comprehensive post-op instructions, prescriptions, and to ensure that all of your questions regarding your procedure are answered.

Surgery is performed in Dr. Weiglein’s private, fully accredited College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario OHP-IP inspected, on-site surgical clinic using only certified FRCPS(C) anaesthesia providers for optimal safety and comfort. This outpatient procedure takes about 1 hour – longer when it is combined with other procedures such as brow lift or facelift.

Upper Eyelids

During the surgery, Dr. Weiglein removes excess skin from a very fine incision in the natural crease of the eye. He removes and repositions fat and in some cases adjusts the muscles for lasting results. Upper eyelid procedures can be comfortably done with local anaesthesia and oral sedation. If the brows have descended considerably, a brow lift may be necessary for full correction.

Lower Eyelids

The incisions for lower eyelid surgery are made just beneath the lash line out to the crow’s feet. This allows removal and tightening of the lower eyelid skin. For those who don’t require skin removal, an inside-the-lid incision may be an option. Lower blepharoplasty often involves partial removal and repositioning of displaced fat pads. Removal of too much fat can result in a gaunt, hollowed appearance, thus surgical experience is a critical factor in successful eyelid surgery.

EyeLift Surgery

Laser resurfacing of the eyelids is a nonsurgical alternative that may delay the need for a surgical blepharoplasty. It tightens and smoothes the skin around the eyes, but will not remodel the fat.

Recovery from eyelid surgery is fairly straightforward, with some minimal bruising and swelling for just a few short days. Makeup can be applied within a few days, which should allow you to resume your normal daily activities.
